A one pot meal with the goodness of vegetables, oats and lentils is quite fulfilling on a wet rainy day.


  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon of Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of Ghee
  • 2 tablespoons of diced Carrots
  • 2 tablespoons of Peas
  • 2 tablespoons of diced Potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons of Moong Dal
  • 3 tablespoons of quick cooking Oats
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 medium sized chopped Onion
  • 1 medium sized chopped Tomato
  • 1 finely chopped Green Chilly
  • ½ teaspoon of finely chopped Ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon of Red Chilli Powder
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 2 ½ cups of Water

Step By Step Method

  • Step 1

    Take ghee in a pressure cooker, saute the onion along with bay leaf and cumin seeds.

    Step 2

    Saute the onions till translucent, now add green chilly and ginger. Saute for a couple of minutes.

    Step 3

    Add the tomatoes and cook till soft.

    Step 4

    Stir fry the vegetables along with the tomatoes now.

    Step 5

    Stir in the turmeric and chilli powder along with the vegetables.

    Step 6

    Now add the moong dal and saute for a few seconds.

    Step 7

    Add the oats now and stir fry further for a couple of minutes.

    Step 8

    Add the salt and the required water. Pressure cook the contents on a medium flame for 4-5 minutes.

    Step 9

    Let the pressure cooker let out the steam naturally, open the cooker. Add the fresh coriander leaves and give it a good stir. Serve the oats khichdi with a drizzle of lime juice or with raita.
