Til Chikki is a Gujarati delicacy packed with the goodness of calcium, iron and omega-3-fatty acids. It is a nutritious and a delicious treat, had in ample during the harvest season.


¾ cup of sesame seeds

½ cup of jaggery

1 ½ teaspoons of ghee

Step By Step Method

  • Sesame seeds are roasted till aromatic and have a crispy feel to it. Ghee is heated in a deep non-stick pan and chopped jaggery is stirred in the ghee and melted away to a uniform consistency on medium flame for 3 minutes. The heat source is turned out and the sesame seeds are mixed in the jaggery ghee mixture. This is now spread over the back of a greased thali with a greased rolling pin. It is rolled out to a thin sheet, say about 8 inch in diameter. A sharp knife is run over it to get 1 ½ inch pieces of the sesame chikki. Once it has cooled, the pieces are broken away and stored in an air-tight container.
