Crispy munchies during the monsoons with a spicy streak are most welcome along with the pitter-patter of the rain drops.


  • 1 cup of Split Green Lentils (soaked for 6-7 hours)
  • ½ cup of finely chopped Onions
  • 2 finely chopped Green Chillies
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh finely chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon of minced Ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon of Asafoetida
  • ¼ teaspoon of Red Chilli Powder
  • ½ teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon of Cumin Seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon of White Sesame Seeds
  • Water as required
  • Oil for deep frying

Step By Step Method

  • Step 1

    Coarsely grind the soaked split green lentils to a coarse consistency using little water.

    Step 2

    Now add the chopped onions, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, green chillies, ginger, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, asafoetida, fresh coriander leaves and salt. Give it a good mix.

    Step 3

    Now heat oil in a kadai, once hot enough take small dumplings from the batter and introduce into the kadai and deep fry them, flipping it over till they turn crispy.

    Step 4

    Remove the crispy pakoras on an absorbent kitchen towel. Serve them hot with fresh mint coriander chutney.
