A simple and yet delicious recipe not to be missed on Janmashtami.

2 cups of whole wheat flour

½ cup of jaggery

¼ cup of water to knead the dough

4 tablespoons of ghee

Some water to melt the jaggery

Oil or ghee for deep frying

Kadai, Spoon, Plate

Step By Step Method

  • Combine ghee and whole wheat flour in a bowl. In a pan melt the jaggery evenly by adding some water to it. Now add this melted jaggery to the flour and combine it into a smooth dough. Now make equal sized balls out of it. Roll them out into circular forms with a rolling pin. Cut these into square shapes with a butter knife. Heat oil or ghee in a kadai, and drop the cut pieces one by one into the heated oil. Fry the pieces till golden brown and take care that the flame is not too high. Drain out the excess oil or ghee on tissue papers and then serve.
